Il Presidente del Consiglio, Giuseppe Conte, è intervenuto alla sessione conclusiva dei lavori del “Global Vaccine Summit”, la conferenza sul rifinanziamento dell’Alleanza GAVI.
“Dear colleagues, Dear friends, the Coronavirushas dramatically recalled ushow important immunizationis to prevent pandemics.
It has also demonstrated that investmentsin global health and vaccines are key not only tosave livesand protect the most vulnerable, but also to preserveglobal security, stability and prosperity.
Over the last 20 years, GAVI has represented the bedrock of global immunization, having allowedgenerations of children to grow healthy.
It has also contributed to buildmore resilient national health systems.
Thanks toits model of public-private cooperation, GAVI is one of our mostimpactful global development partnerships.
Itb has been an essential playerto achieve Universal Health Coverage, Global Health Security, Sustainable Development and well-being for all.
GAVI has also pioneered innovative financing instruments to quickly develop and distribute newvaccines at low prices: such asthe International FinanceFacility for Immunization (IFFIm) and the Advance Market Commitment (AMC), of which Italy has been a promoter and one of the largest donors.
As we continue to rally for the global health response to Covid-19, Italy, as one of the co-leaders of the International Alliance within the ACT-Accelerator, strongly supports the emerging Covax Facility and is ready to contribute to the GAVI Covid-19 AMC.
Therefore, we have agreed, in partnership with other original donorsof the AMC pilot, to repurpose the final Italian balanceof almost 80 million dollars to fund the new Covid-19 AMC.Dear Friends,b in recognition of the results achieved by GAVI so far, I am proud to announce the following further pledges from Italy.
First, as I have recently anticipated,Italy will make an additionaldirect contribution of 120 million eurosfor the next 5 years, a 20% increase comparedtoour previous support.
Second, acknowledging the fundamental role played by IFFIm, we have decided to extend our contribution to the Facilityuntil 2030 with a new pledge of 150 million euros, for a total amount of 287.5 million Euros.
These contributions are a concrete signalof our willingness to continue to invest in effective multilateralism and international cooperation and solidarity.
We intend to put these values at the core of our G20 Presidency in 2021.
This is our solidarity in action. All together, we will achieve our goals. Thank you.”
