Palio di Siena: Italy’s Oldest Horse Race | 2016

Sometimes the atmosphere of an event is created by the people. Not the event itself. PALIO DI SIENA | 2016 | On August 16th and July 2nd, Siena comes to life with the Palio – a brutal, bareback horse race lasting no longer than 90 seconds around the Piazza del Campo (Central Square). The citizens of Siena have kept this tradition alive for centuries. Each contrade (suburb) of the city has the chance to win. The race only takes place twice a year and in Siena, it is the main event of the year. They live and breathe the Palio. PALIO DI SIENA is a film intended to sum up the surreal atmosphere you will witness if you ever get to see it. Epic, inspiring and full of life. Put it on your bucket list!! Song: Clarity – Ian Post (used with license) Note: This video is a highlight reel of a holiday, which happened to happen at the time of the Palio. There was no initial intention to film the event, I just thought it’d make a cool film – it is not being used commercially, or to make money, just for fun! Therefore, no license was requested etc. for this reason.
